1) Project Coordinator (Full Time/Contract)
The Toronto Association for Learning & Preserving the History of WWII in Asia is an educational and community organization promoting awareness on the history of WWII in Asia, war crimes, genocide, international law and the furthering of modern international reconciliation. We are seeking a full time Project Coordinator to support our ongoing outreach and educational projects, with a focus on organizing the "Forgotten Voices - Living History" conference taking place in 2012 through a partnership with the Toronto District School Board. This is a part time position, with potential to become full time. Consideration will be given for postgraduate academic commitments with sufficient notice. The Advocacy Officer will report directly to the Executive Director. Occasional flexibility in hours & availability is required for project commitments.

Duties & Responsibilities:
• Assist and take a significant role in organizing a TDSB youth conference in March/April 2012 involving logistics, workshop development, guest speaker arrangements, recruitment and publicity alongside 1 or 2 other project leads, supervising OISE teacher-candidate interns and volunteers
• Alongside other project staff, assist with outreach presentations under the direction of the Executive Director
• Development and monitor impact of youth and educational projects and partnerships with various school boards (TDSB, YRDSB, etc.) with an aim to
• Coordinate public relations and communications from school boards to media contacts, draft press releases and assist with producing the quarterly Toronto ALPHA newsletter
• Liaising with Toronto ALPHA board members, committees and community contacts as required to promote Toronto ALPHA educational and youth work
• Maintain website content to reflect specific project status, and as required develop specific content in conjunction with the Toronto ALPHA web developer
• Assist with external presentations and workshops delivered by the Toronto ALPHA Executive Directors
• Identify key resources and publications for the Toronto ALPHA resource library
• Identify potential initiatives and communities to further the core mandate of ALPHA

Qualifications & Skills:
• Completed undergraduate-level studies
• Strong written and oral communication skills in English
• Competency in MSOffice and Windows applications: MS Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Internet applications
• Conference or event planning experience
• Project management experience, with demonstrable competency in marketing, recruitment, in a leadership context
• Well-organized, a quick learner with a willingness to take ownership of work, multi-task and exceed expectations with minimal supervision
• Quick learner and able to multi-task and prioritize and respect deadlines with a positive attitude
• Strong people skills and a team player; ability to create working relations with colleagues of different ages and backgrounds
• Experience working in a non-profit environment or educational setting; ability to train, manage and retain volunteers for longer-term ALPHA projects
• Possess some knowledge about Asian WWII history, international relations, humanitarian law and passion for social justice for forgotten victims in history

Additional Skills:
• Research experience in a post-graduate humanities or social science stream would be an asset
• Experience with media relations would be an asset
• Experience with website maintenance and Joomla interface would be an asset
• Experience and competency in Adobe applications (Acrobat, Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator) would be an asset

2) Video Archival Intern (1 Position)
The Toronto Association for Learning & Preserving the History of WWII in Asia is an educational and community association promoting awareness on the history of WWII in Asia, war crimes, genocide, international law, and furthering modern international reconciliation. Please see www.torontoalpha.org for more information. We are seeking a co-op student or part-time student intern beginning January 2012. Student interns can work 1 or 2 days per week, negotiable. The rate of pay will be $11.50/hr.

Duties & Responsibilities:
The objective of this Archival Project is to categorize and arrange all ALPHA resource materials in order to allow educators and students to pursue research on the history of WWII in Asia. Toronto ALPHA has organized overseas Study Tours for 150 educators to travel to China, Korea and Japan since 2004. During these past 8 years, we have amassed a considerable amount of primary source material including 400+ hours of WWII survivors’ video testimonies.

The intern will be in charge of selecting, categorizing and sequencing and creating a catalogue of materials deemed to have long-term value. Information will be in form of video files, sound recordings, with occasional photographs, maps & other documents. Primarily, work will involve logging and editing of video files and developing the basis for future educational work. Once completed, the second stage will be to prepare basic rough cuts of interview footage for the Toronto ALPHA Resource Centre.

Experience & Qualifications:
• Completed or completing post-secondary education
• Experience with film editing software, Adobe applications, logging film footage
• Experience with managing film production, including storyboard & script development
• Experience in project & event management, academic research, and the non-profit sector
• Strong written and oral communication skills in English
• Competency in MSOffice and Windows applications: MS Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Internet applications
• Well-organized, a quick learner with a willingness to take ownership of work, multi-task and exceed expectations with minimal supervision
• Strong people skills and a team player; ability to collaborate positively with colleagues of different ages and backgrounds

Additional Skills:
• Transcription or translation experience in Korean, Chinese and Japanese would be an asset
• Knowledge or fluency of Chinese ,Korean and Japanese language would be an asset
• Experience working in a non-profit environment
• Possess some knowledge of Asian WWII history and is passionate about social justice for forgotten victims in history

3) Project Assistant - (Part Time)

The Toronto Association for Learning & Preserving the History of WWII in Asia is an educational non-profit organization promoting awareness on human rights, war crimes, genocide, international law, and international reconciliation.
We are hiring a full time Project Coordinator for at our 85 Scarsdale Road office. The rate of pay will be $11.50/hr. This will be a part time position.

Duties & Responsibilities:
• Under supervision from the ALPHA Project Coordinator, will assist in promotion, organization, coordination and overall logistics of a youth conference for Toronto high school students.
• Assist the Project Coordinator with project management, marketing & media relations, historical research; on-the-job training will be provided as necessary
• With direction from the ALPHA Project Coordinator, set up and maintain the Youth Conference website in conjunction with the Toronto ALPHA web developer
• Assist with setting up a registration process for TDSB secondary schools & teachers
• Coordinate and assist with training a group of 15-20 conference volunteers
• Development of the Youth Conference as a stand-alone service package to be marketed to targeted school boards in Ontario.
• Recruitment and preparation of TDSB teacher attendees
• Occasional evenings and weekend meetings or preparatory workshops may be required.

Experience & Qualifications:
• Undergraduate-level university education
• Experience with Windows OS and MS Office applications
• Experience working with youth, community outreach or in a non-profit work environment
• Able to work responsibility and work independently with individuals of various backgrounds
• Experience taking responsibility or leadership in group situations
• Ability to work to tight deadlines and flexibly manage multiple priorities
• Exhibit professionalism and tact in responding to client or stakeholder enquiries and needs
• Experience in a non-profit work environment
• Experience with Adobe Acrobat Pro, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe InDesign and Adobe Illustrator (CS3 and above) would be an asset.
• Experience and proficiency with basic HTML or Joomla website interface would be an asset
