About:

The Elmer Iseler Singers, conducted by Artistic Director Lydia Adams, is a 20-voice professional chamber choir based in Toronto, Canada. Founded by the late Dr. Elmer Iseler in 1979, it is one of Canada’s most illustrious professional choral ensembles. The choir has built an enviable international reputation through its concerts, broadcasts and more than 50 recordings. Known for its unique beauty of sound, the Elmer Iseler Singers bring to life an exciting repertoire that spans 500 years of great choral music. The choir regularly commissions and performs new works. It is featured at national and international festivals.
The Singers are highly valued for their contributions to master classes and educational leadership workshops for schools and community choirs. From 1997 to 2007 the EIS was the professional Choir-In-Residence through the Elmer Iseler Chair at the University of Toronto’s Faculty of Music.

History:

Music is a Mission,
…a mission of bringing people together, of reaching out in friendship for the betterment of society.

By fostering excellence and innovation in choral music as a fully professional choral ensemble, the Elmer Iseler Singers is committed to bring beauty, hope and inspiration to the lives of Canadians and others throughout the world.

Creative Vision:
Canada’s Elmer Iseler Singers enhances the lives of humankind through excellence in choral singing in concerts, tours, broadcasts, recordings and educational opportunities. As an organization, we respect the spirit of creativity, and this spirit of respect encompasses all we do.
We are a Legacy caring organization with a National Outlook honouring the cultural builders that have provided positioning for the arts in Canada and in particular for choral music: Louis Applebaum, Harry and Mary Freedman, Harry Somers, R. Murray Schafer, Nicholas Goldschmidt, the CBC, Sir Ernest MacMillan, Howard Cable, François Bernier, Murray Adaskin, John Avison and Elmer Iseler to name only a few.
Their strengths and examples continue to inspire our own leadership in an ever-developing arts community for future tomorrows.
