There are various ways to make gifts to The Shepherds’ Trust, each method offering tax benefits that may significantly reduce the cost of your gift.

Gift of Cash

By far, the most popular method of support, a gift of cash, provides an immediate benefit to The Shepherds’ Trust and an instant tax receipt for you.

Gifts of cash may be given through your parish on the special collection weekend of November 12-13, 2016, or with post-dated cheques throughout the year and should be made payable to: Parish Name – The Shepherds’ Trust. You can also mail your cheque directly to: The Shepherds’ Trust, 1155 Yonge Street, Toronto, ON M4T 1W2.

Bequests

A bequest is a specific provision in your will, directing various estate assets to be given to The Shepherds’ Trust in return for a tax receipt for the full value of the bequest. These gifts can symbolize permanent memorials for you, your family, or another loved one you wish to honour.

If you have included The Shepherds’ Trust in your will, please let us know. As a sign of our appreciation, we would like to send you a hand-crafted cross blessed by Cardinal Thomas Collins. You will also receive an invitation to an annual Legacy Society special event with the Cardinal.

Publicly Traded Stocks and Securities

If you have securities such as stocks or mutual funds that have increased in value, you may wish to consider donating them to The Shepherds’ Trust instead of gifting cash. The awareness of gifting securities as a smart tax planning strategy is growing because the government allows you to directly donate appreciated securities without having to pay any capital gains tax. The process is very simple and in most cases only requires a one-page form. Click here to learn more.

In Memoriam Cards

The In Memoriam card enables you to offer your sympathy to those who have lost a loved one, and your donation will be acknowledged to the family of the deceased without disclosing the amount of your gift. A charitable receipt will be issued from The Shepherds’ Trust office.

To order In Memoriam cards by mail, please call Marisa Rogucki at (416) 934-3400, ext. 336, or email retiredpriests@archtoronto.org.

Living Gifts

Have you ever wondered what to give to the person who “has everything”? Or, perhaps you’ve been invited to a celebration where “best wishes only” have been requested. A Shepherds’ Trust Living Gift offers you the opportunity to honour that special someone by making a donation in his/her name, while allowing The Shepherds’ Trust to continue caring for our retired priests. It really is the gift that keeps on giving!

The Shepherds’ Trust will notify the recipient (without disclosing the amount of the gift) that you have made a contribution in his/her honour. To offer your Living Gift online, click here.
