Role of Volunteers Enhance the care provided to our senior residents and their families Improve our residents quality of life and help to make their experience a more positive one Provide supplementary service by supporting staff Benefits of Volunteering Rewarding and meaningful experiences Recognition and social events Letters of reference provided upon request (for those who have satisfied the minimum commitment) Find out more about our volunteer programs below. A variety of volunteer opportunities are available: Friendly visits Convenience store Escorts to appointments Computers Portering to activities Shopping outings Hair salon Feeding Administration Pastoral Care Library Recreation Reading Commitment of one 3-hour shift (average shift time) weekly for 6 months to 1 year. (Please note, after six months of service, our program does allow for some flexibility for those who are not available during certain times of the year (e.g., summer) Steps to becoming a volunteer following the application and interview process are: attend information session submit completed medical form, including two-step Tuberculosis Skin test complete a criminal reference check (Shepherd Village will provide the form) provide two references participate in orientation and training We are looking for volunteers who are: Caring, compassionate individuals, committed to providing "great customer service" Flexible, team players who love to work with people
