ACTIVITIES
THE ANNUAL LONERGAN LECTURE

The Lonergan Lecture honors the memory and advances the achievement of Bernard Lonergan. Each year the Lecture brings a noted expert to Toronto to address questions important to our moment. The lecturer also gives a paper in our Graduate Seminar series. Audio recordings of the most recent lectures are available here.

GRADUATE SEMINARS

The Institute hosts an ongoing Graduate Seminar series. The seminars, which typically meet five times a year, provide faculty and graduate students a venue to share their research, receive constructive feedback, and collaborate in the pursuit of their scholarly and scientific projects. Each meeting features a presentation based on a paper distributed beforehand, a designated response, and open conversation.

Papers for the Graduate Seminar meetings are distributed a week beforehand, electronically and at the front desk of Regis College. If you would like receive notice of our meetings and electronic copies of papers for discussion, please send us a note asking to subscribe to our Graduate Seminar email list.

READING CIRCLES

We also regularly conduct informal reading circles. Interested parties are encouraged to inquire at our Library or by email.

COURSES

The LRI is committed to making Toronto one of the premier destinations for advanced studies related to Lonergan’s achievement, its developments and applications. The Institute neither enrolls students nor grants degrees, but conducts its educational activities in partnership with Regis College, the Toronto School of Theology, and other partners at the University of Toronto. We provide a list of suggested courses pertaining to Lonergan studies.

Our network of Research and Associate Scholars at the University of Toronto and vicinity affords an exceptional opportunity for studies. Students interested in graduate studies in theology are encouraged to see the Regis College website for details about admission and financial aid, including scholarships supported by a gift from the Lonergan Trust Fund.

SCHOLARSHIPS
The LRI also provides direct support for graduate and post-graduate research through our Research Assistantship program, and through the Frederick E. Crowe Bursary.

FREDERICK E. CROWE BURSARY

This Bursary was established in honor of Fr Crowe, founder of the original Lonergan Centre that later became the LRI, and one of Fr Lonergan’s most important interpreters. It is an annual award intended to promote research and scholarship among current students and those who have received an earned doctorate within the past three years. No connection to Regis College, the Toronto School of Theology, or the University of Toronto is required. For more information, including eligibility and application details, see our Crowe Bursary page.

RESEARCH ASSISTANTSHIPS

The Institute has a limited number of positions for Graduate Research Assistants who are doctoral or post-doctoral researchers at Regis College, the Toronto School of Theology, or in allied programs at the University of Toronto. The Assistantships confer a modest bursary. They are not an offer of employment, but recipients are invited to collaborate with the Institute in the fulfillment of its aims. For more information, including application details, please see our Assistantships page.

The Research Assistantships were originally created by a gift from the Denson Family Foundation of Houston. The have subsequently been enhanced by other partners, including Michael and Thomas Vertin.
