VANCOUVER April 25, 2018 — For 25 years, the Canadian HIV/AIDS Legal Network has been defending and advancing human rights in response to HIV, in Canada and globally. This milestone will be commemorated in Vancouver on Friday, April 27, with a reception attended by former Legal Network board president and current B.C. Attorney General, the Hon. David Eby. As advocates and experts are in Vancouver for the 27th Annual Canadian Conference on HIV/AIDS Research (CAHR), the anniversary event will look back on the past 25 years of progress, and look forward to the work still to be done. This includes scaling up harm reduction services in prison, reforming our punitive laws on drugs and sex work, defending the rights of LGBTQ people, and ending unjust HIV criminalization – which requires action by provincial Attorneys General (including in British Columbia) and the federal government. Dr. Mona Loutfy, HIV clinician, co-author of Canadian scientific consensus statement on HIV transmission and criminal law; Principal Investigator, Canadian HIV Women’s Sexual and Reproductive Health Cohort Study (CHIWOS) WHAT: Reception to mark the 25th anniversary of the Canadian HIV/AIDS Legal Network WHEN: Friday, April 27, 2018. 5:30 – 7:30 p.m. Remarks will begin at 6:00 p.m. WHERE: The Westin Bayshore Hotel, Marine Room. 1601 Bayshore Drive, Vancouver.
