Healthy Youth Preventative Education (HYPE) Program

The HYPE Program is an evidence-based program that targets the prevention of violence through the promotion of positive, healthy relationships. The program is offered in small groups for youth ages 12-25. Through this program, youth will be empowered to engage in healthier relationships and build social and emotional strengths to develop into successful, contributing adults.

The function of this position is to co-facilitate group sessions both in school and community settings. This is an open call for applications. Applications will be reviewed upon receipt. Only those applicants selected for an interview will be contacted.

JOB DESCRIPTION: To provide group co-facilitation to clients in the HYPE Program Facilitate daytime and evening program sessions weekly for 14 week cycles as needed To prepare materials for curriculum-based group sessions To complete all required reports and training Liaise with school staff and other youth serving agencies in York Region Attend staff meetings QUALIFICATIONS: Post-secondary degree in relevant Human Services field or equivalent combination of experience and education Experience in group facilitation Experience working from a positive youth development framework Knowledge regarding the dynamics of violence and abuse and how they relate to healthy relationships Able to articulate an analysis of strengths, resilience, and coping skills among youth as it relates to enhancing interpersonal functioning Knowledge of crisis intervention techniques A flexible and non-judgmental approach to people and work Excellent interpersonal and communication skills Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs Ability to work with diverse youth populations and communities with an awareness of socioeconomic and language barriers Ability to speak more than one language is an asset Please note: The John Howard Society of York Region is an equal opportunity employer.
