About the Position The Development Officer, Leadership Giving, is a self-starter who builds and maintains relationships with David Suzuki Foundation donors through ‘high-touch’ engagement. The Officer has a keen understanding of environmental issues important to donors and is able to convey how donors’ generosity make a difference. Responsibilities Current: Work with the Director, Development to set and achieve annual fundraising goals and revenue targets, and to evaluate progress. Responsible for raising funds from major funders ($10,000 and above) including a portfolio of individual major donors, foundations and corporations. Steward current major funders through regular updates, invitations to events, writing reports, and facilitating contact with other DSF staff. Proactively research and develop major funder relationships to support DSF programs. Initiate and manage special events in the region, including fundraising events and donor cultivation and recognition events on a variety of scales and in a variety of locations. Maintain and update information and activities in donor database (track responses, detail communications, etc.) Develop and manage proposals and applications to foundations (institutional, family and corporate), including budgets. Coordinate with staff in DSF’s other departments to monitor, evaluate and report on program results. Collaborate with other departments in identifying project funding needs and develop strategy to achieve funding goals. Write compelling cases for support for initiatives in need of funding. Other related duties as required Growth: Plan, direct and implement a major gift program for funders primarily based in Ontario and other parts of eastern Canada. Develop and lead corporate partnership strategy and programs for DSF Qualifications Education and experience Minimum two years professional fundraising experience in the not-for-profit sector Strong experience building donor relationships and meeting revenue targets Post-secondary Degree/Diploma or equivalent working experience Skill sets and qualities CRA charitable tax receipting rules an asset Exceptional interpersonal and communications skills Superb written and spoken English and French language skills Proficiency in Word, Excel, Outlook and Raiser’s Edge; experience with Office 365 and/or SharePoint an asset; experience with Salesforce an asset Ability to communicate the values and programs of the David Suzuki Foundation in a way that lets donors understand how their support makes a difference Strong values aligned with DSF’s mission, demonstrated through work or community service Additional Information Application process: Please submit your cover letter and your resume online and submit your application by going to The position starts as soon as possible and rolling interviews will be conducted as soon as qualified applications are received.
