The Development Officer (DO) is an engaged, motivated fundraising professional. They will play a key role in the continuous development of life-long relationships, utilizing donor-centric strategies that will identify, cultivate and enhance the interests and involvement of prospective donors and current Southlake donors.

The Development Officer (DO) is responsible for managing a portfolio of donors and prospects in the $10,000 – $100,000 range at various stages of the donor cycle in the major gift program. The DO will coordinate and execute strategic initiatives to secure philanthropic gifts and support the work of the Foundation leadership team and volunteer committees, working with various cross-functional Foundation and Hospital teams to implement and execute strategic fundraising plans to meet priority fundraising

As part of the relationship, the DO will work closely with the Fundraising and Hospital team to provide meaningful and timely stewardship plans with a focus to sustain and increase donor involvement with Southlake.

Job Duties & Responsibilities Revenue Generation Manage a portfolio of major gift donors and major gift prospects with a general focus on gifts $10,000 - $100,000. Establish and deliver effective, consistent, and appropriate donor cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship strategies and plans for the assigned portfolio. Support Foundation Leadership and Volunteers through the preparation of support materials for donor meetings. This includes but is not limited to agendas, meeting briefs, research profiles, speaking notes, agendas, and minutes. Take responsibility for maximizing a portfolio of relationships through the development of strategic engagement plans and the management of a prospect pipeline. Play a critical role in building a culture of philanthropy and actively work with Hospital team members and volunteers to identify prospective donors and coordinate pipeline development through the management of prospect lists and assignments on their behalf. Operations As part of the Foundation staff partner plan, liaise with hospital programs to remain current with hospital priorities and plans. Identify and develop compelling giving strategies to diversify and expand our philanthropic investment opportunities. Meticulously follow relationship management practices and protocols for recording prospect and donor interactions to enable timely, robust, and accurate ongoing relationship management. Position Southlake Foundation as a trusted advisor and strategic partner to supporters and our Hospital Family. Participate in team meetings to address broad issues relating to strategy, communication, new ideas, and concerns. Contribute to the creation of budgets and work plans on an annual basis for the Major Gift Portfolio, and effectively execute their implementation. Work with the Stewardship team to implement key stewardship initiatives that share the impact of philanthropic investment to ensure life-long relationships and a positive donor experience through key strategies, which include facility tours, invitations to key openings, personalized calls and notes. Provide support to fundraising team members as required. Participate in special projects and perform other related duties as required, directed, or as the situation dictates. Qualifications: Education: University degree or college diploma, or equivalent education and experience Working towards Certified Fund Raising Executive (CFRE) designation Experience: Minimum of 3-5 years experience in successfully executing major gift fundraising (this includes identification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship) Hospital fundraising and campaign experience is preferred Proven success in closing gifts in the $10,000 - $100,000 range from individuals, corporations and foundations in the $10,000 - $100,000 Additional Skills/Abilities: Solid understanding of what drives prospects and donors to support, and a superior understanding of the options that might appeal to them Expert knowledge of strategic, creative and tactical practices and procedures, with a strong focus on fundraising, relationship development, and working with various stakeholders Knowledge of basic tax guidelines as they relate to the philanthropy Excellent judgment in a variety of situations A strong relationship builder with excellent communication skills who works well in a collaborative environment with diverse groups of people including staff, committees, volunteers, physicians, hospital staff, and boards of directors Ability to work both independently and in a team environment Excellent project management, prioritization and time-management skills to manage multiple on-going projects simultaneously in a fast paced environment Demonstrated creativity and ability to write proposals that inspire donors in support of stated hospital priorities Excellent presentation skills, with experience speaking to diverse and influential audiences. Experience and sensitivity in dealing with members of different cultural and racial backgrounds, including visible and non-visible dimensions of diversity A passion for Southlake Regional Health Centre and/or health care An organized self-starter Knowledge of and/or involvement with key York Region networks and organizations is an asset Superior written and verbal skills Excellent interpersonal skills and a positive attitude to work effectively, collaboratively, diplomatically, and confidentially with a variety of stakeholders including donors/prospective donors, hospital amily, and volunteers Exceptional attention to detail. Ability to develop, execute, and follow through multiple priorities, plans, and deadlines simultaneously Excellent skills in Raiser’s Edge or comparable CRM systems Strong proficiency in computer skills, which include the MS Windows platform and basic MS software including Word, Excel, Outlook, and Power Point
