LGBT Youth Line is a Queer, Trans, Two-Spirit youth-led organization that affirms and supports the experiences of youth (29 and under) across Ontario. We do this by:

Providing anonymous peer support and referrals;
Training youth to provide support to other youth; and
Providing resources so youth can make informed decisions.

Under the direction of the Executive Director (ED), the Community Engagement and Communications Coordinator will lead the organization’s overall communications and outreach activities to strengthen our visibility and presence across Ontario. The Coordinator will work closely with the ED to identify, build and strengthen relationships with various stakeholders, partners and media. They will also work with the ED and Fundraising Committee to expand and strengthen the organizations resources, with a focus on individual donors and third party events. The ideal candidate is a demonstrated self-starter with ability to identify and pursue strategic opportunities, while centering Youth Line’s (YL) Values. They must have an aptitude for collaboration and mutual growth and are a fast learner. The individual has a strong understanding and ability to communicate issues and challenges facing 2SLGBTQ youth across Ontario. The individual enjoys taking on varied roles and tasks, and is able to effectively manage and prioritize their work. The candidate has a personal and professional commitment to anti-oppression, anti-racism, and accessibility. Compensation: $40,000 per year plus health benefits (after 3 month probation is completed) Responsibilities: Helps build positive relationships through ongoing engagement with various stakeholders, including 2SLGBTQ youth, donors, community partners, alumni, media, and service providers across Ontario Supports other staff, Board members and volunteers with communication and engagement Works with Executive Director and other staff to foster new relationships and partnerships with 2SLGBTQ youth-serving groups and organizations across Ontario Works closely with the Executive Director to create press materials Coordinates and creates content for YL’s social media, website and e-newsletters Strengthens YL’s fundraising capacity, with an emphasis on donor and third-party communications and cultivation Identifies opportunities to enhance fundraising initiatives with support from the Executive Director and Fundraising Committee Leads the Outreach Committee to coordinate YL’s presence at various outreach and donor events Supports special events committees (Youth Awards, Craftathon, 25th Anniversary), on an as-needed basis Monitors, measures and creates reports on communication and donor activities Required Skills Work or educational experience/skills in communications, marketing, fundraising, or related field Excellent writing, analytic, and verbal/presentation skills with the ability to summarize information and connect with a variety of audiences (2SLGBTQ youth, educators, service providers, donors, corporations, media, volunteers) Experience developing and coordinating content for different social media platforms utilizing content management calendars Strong interpersonal, customer service, problem solving and planning skills Demonstrated ability to work both in a team environment as well as independently Experience with cultivating and maintaining donor relationships Experience fostering relationships and trust with Indigenous groups and Indigenous queer, trans and Two-Spirit youth Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite Familiarity with donor management or content management systems an asset Experience updating and maintaining websites, including content management systems an asset Experience with Wordpress or basic HTML/CSS an asset Experience in graphic design or video editing an asset Pre-existing knowledge of 2SLGBTQ youth grassroots groups and community organizations an asset Work Environment Total hours per week: 5 Flexible balance required in scheduling of work (based on deliverables required). Daily work is within normal office conditions but occasional evening and weekend work is required. The position is supervised by the Executive Director. Additionally, the position will work closely with the Fundraising Committee led by the Board of Directors.
