IF YOU’RE INTERESTED, PLEASE GO AHEAD AND REGISTER SO YOU’LL BE NOTIFIED AS SOON AS WE HAVE ALL DETAILS CONFIRMED.
We know winning big change in today’s complex world requires tapping into new sources of people power, reaching people on their doorstep and on their smartphones. Digital tools have given us the ability to reach more people than ever before, but are we being principled and personalized in our approach?
Please join Vanessa Butterworth-Tsimoyianis and Amara Possian as we venture into the world of digital organizing strategy. Together, we’ll break down best practices in principled and personalized digital engagement, share examples of what has worked well and what hasn’t, and send you home with practical tools. We’ll adapt the workshop based on who is in the room, so please bring questions from your current online engagement strategy.
We need to consistently experiment and dream up new strategies to win multi-level, community-based system change. Digital isn’t a magical unicorn, but when aligned with your overall strategy, it can enable deep supporter engagement.
A lot of people are counting on us to build strategic campaign communications and inclusive movements that succeed. We hope you can join us as we explore different online engagement strategies!

I currently work as the Senior Digital Project Coordinator at Greenpeace USA and sit on the Rising Tide North America organizing team. I also consult for grassroots groups and NGOs. Outside of paid work, I organize with frontline groups against police brutality, gentrification, and environmental justice. Over the past ten years, I’ve worked on campaign, mobilization, direct action and movement strategy across the US and Canada. I’m originally from Mississauga of the New Credit Territory as known as Caledon, Ontario, but now live in Oakland, California on Ohlone Territory.
I’m a campaigner, facilitator, and engagement specialist who has organized with movements for environmental and economic justice and worked with progressive organizations for a decade. I’ve trained and coached thousands of community organizers, and managed Vote Together, Leadnow’s groundbreaking 2015 election campaign. Since 2017, I’ve focused full time on my consulting practice. With some clients, I design advocacy campaigns and digital engagement strategies. With others, I strengthen organizational culture and infrastructure so everyone can do their best work. All of my work is about helping groups set and achieve ambitious goals. I’m on the board of the Centre of Story-based Strategy. I also facilitate digital campaigning trainings with Organize BC and teach digital campaigning as a part-time professor in Seneca College’s Government Relations graduate program.
