The
Broadview Community Youth Group (BCYG) is registered charity started in 2007 to provide affordable, accessible and innovative programs to children aged 4 to 12, and leadership opportunities for youth aged 13 to 17, living primarily in the Riverdale, Leslieville and East York communities, although we draw children from Downtown, Scarborough and The Beach as well. We offer three day camps per year (Summer, Winter and March Break) and run programs on weekends. Our programs fall into three categories: creative (performing, visual and media arts), health & fitness (sports, games, cooking), and educational (science fun, personal development). We’re also developing after school programming to begin in September 2011. The BCYG operates out of rented space in the Danforth Baptist Church (we are unaffiliated with the church), located on Danforth Avenue, just east of Broadview.
The BCYG is looking for people to participate as Board members and volunteers.
Board Members
The BCYG has a 7-person Board of Directors to oversee the organization. Our Board is currently transitioning from a management board to a policy-resource board, where the focus will be on three areas: strategic planning, policy making and resource development. We’re looking for people from the community who have knowledge of children’s programming, a passion for helping others, and an ability to help generate resources for the organization. Areas of particular interest are legal, accounting/finance, and marketing/PR. Ideal candidates will live and/or own a business in the community, have knowledge of children’s programs, and be able and willing to connect the BCYG to resources.
We are not looking to have endless meetings! Our Board will meet formally four to six times a year.
We’re also looking to put together an Advisory Board of prominent local citizens who want to help push the organization forward and lend their name, without making a formal commitment.
Volunteers
We need volunteers to serve in a number of capacities. Our Development Committee is solely focused on fundraising and outreach. We’re developing a Program Committee to help create, recommend and evaluate programs. We also are looking for general volunteers to assist with running programs, participating in outreach initiatives, and planning our major fundraisers.
If you are interested in any of these opportunities, and to find out more about the BCYG, please visit our website at www.bcyg.ca, or call 416-907-8002.
